THE INNOCENT WILL PAY
There are people in this world that suffer from chronic pain daily. Most of us, including myself, take our medications responsibly. I have seen 6 different specialist over the past 9 years, and have completed more than a dozen months of physical therapy. During this time, I have had two back surgeries and followed the doctor’s orders to the letter. After an extended period with many opinions, the only option left was long-term pain management. I have been in pain management for 2 years. Unfortunately, I have been told I will be addicted to narcotic pain medications for the rest of my life.
I have taken my prescriptions as prescribed under the expert supervision of a pain management specialist. I have signed contracts vowing to never sell, abuse, or redistribute my medicine. I am sure most people who truly suffer from pain would never attempt this, but regrettably it does happen.
I believe the percentage of people that abuse this privilege is very small. There is also a very small percentage of doctors that will cater to the rich and famous, and this week we are reminded again that corruption exist. The past is littered with episodes of prescription drug overdoses, and when it is one of the rich and famous the media will make sure that the responsible people get punished too.
For those who do not suffer from pain, consider yourselves lucky. Those that abuse or pedal prescription medications are making it really hard on the blameless. The doctors that unlawfully prescribe narcotics to the rich and famous make it hard on the doctors that are honest.
I fear the reckless behavior of a minority will push in a new era for pain management. I see a time that the DEA will pay unexpected visits to your home inspecting your medications. The innocent will be left to prove their innocence. This will allow another avenue for the government to meddle into our lives.
Please do not be irresponsible for the sack of others.
